Summary

I cannot recommend this book enough this definitely has a place in my favorites list。 Now listen please look at the trigger warnings for this one if you are sensitive because it deal with pretty heavy and dark materials。 Anyways this book is beautifully written, flows easily and stays interesting throughout the whole book。 Follows the empowering story of our main character and let me tell you I admire her and her strength so much。 Everyone says it's sad and yes it is but not sad in the way you t I cannot recommend this book enough this definitely has a place in my favorites list。 Now listen please look at the trigger warnings for this one if you are sensitive because it deal with pretty heavy and dark materials。 Anyways this book is beautifully written, flows easily and stays interesting throughout the whole book。 Follows the empowering story of our main character and let me tell you I admire her and her strength so much。 Everyone says it's sad and yes it is but not sad in the way you think。 To me the saddest part of the entire book is understanding what the dedication means cause the hurts so much。 。。。more

This book was devastatingly beautiful。 Hoover’s ability to make the reader and main character’s brains one in the same is so fucking cool。 When something hits them, it hits you too and you don’t realize it until it’s happened。 Really great book!!

I don’t even know what to say。 I was invested in half the story but the other half felt like such a chore。 The reasons for the speed of the relationship felt confusing as they established strong preferences about relationships at the beginning。 I just didn’t really enjoy the fast pace and time skipping of this book。 The ending didn’t feel sweet or relieving it just felt rushed and random。

Nancy

Wow, thank you for writing this。

This。 Book。 😭😭😭💛I was never attracted to this author's books, until my sister-in-law highly praised this one。 This book is so good, and so heartbreaking。 It's about love, family, and breaking the pattern of domestic abuse。 This。 Book。 😭😭😭💛I was never attracted to this author's books, until my sister-in-law highly praised this one。 This book is so good, and so heartbreaking。 It's about love, family, and breaking the pattern of domestic abuse。 。。。more

3。5 starts for me。 Some of this was difficult to listen to, the parts about abuse。 But the women in the book are so strong and courageous and really make you consider different aspects of the women in abusive relationships and the choices they make。 The authors note at the end is worth hanging on for。

Eva Dickey

I am not the target audience for this book。 I do not enjoy romance novels, and the first half is basically that。 I would have dnf’d at less than 20% had it not been a book club book。 I’m not even sure why it was on my want to read list other than there were stunning Goodreads reviews and ratings and I’ve been trying to read a bit beyond my usual favorite genres。 However, the book had some redeeming features, even for me, once I got into the crux of the message。I do think the author writes well f I am not the target audience for this book。 I do not enjoy romance novels, and the first half is basically that。 I would have dnf’d at less than 20% had it not been a book club book。 I’m not even sure why it was on my want to read list other than there were stunning Goodreads reviews and ratings and I’ve been trying to read a bit beyond my usual favorite genres。 However, the book had some redeeming features, even for me, once I got into the crux of the message。I do think the author writes well for an NA audience, she keeps you turning pages, and she has a very important message about domestic abuse to tell in this book that should be mentioned in the book jacket blurb, as it could be triggering。 The story moves along quickly but in some predictable ways。 There’s a twist that probably packs an emotional punch for many readers。 At that point in the story I was wondering why the character in question hasn’t gone to lifelong therapy to deal with an obviously traumatic event (I am trying not to be too spoilery)。 I didn’t connect all that well with the characters, but again, it’s not my genre。 She wrote the main character Lily pretty well, especially the teen angst of 15 year old Lily。 There was some cheesy dialogue sprinkled throughout, and the character names were eye-roll worthy。 I did see plenty of red flags for the relationship issues early on, but I’m sure that was intentional。Overall, probably a 2-2。5 star read for me, but I appreciated the overall message the author was giving to women about domestic abuse so will round up。 。。。more
